Wayne Memorial High School opened in 1953, replacing the original Wayne High School building nearby, which dated to 1924 and became the district's board of education offices. The new school's name honors local servicemen killed in the Second World War. It has served as the main public high school for the city of Wayne, southwest of Detroit, ever since, educating generations of students through the Wayne-Westland Community School District. Actor Johnny Pacar attended in the 1990s before graduating and moving to Los Angeles in 2001 to pursue acting, later appearing in television series including Roswell and Veronica Mars. The school remains an active public high school today, with its original 1950s building still in use and periodically renovated.
