UMS (University Musical Society) was established in 1879 and, affiliated with the University of Michigan, presents music, theater and dance by visiting artists in Ann Arbor. It isn't one building but a presenter, using Hill Auditorium, the Power Center, Rackham Auditorium, the Arthur Miller and Lydia Mendelssohn theatres, the Michigan Theater and the Ypsilanti Freighthouse. On the road to its 150th season in 2028-29 it's commissioning new work, like The Rose Sonata, a new dance piece with New York City Ballet principal Sara Mearns that premieres October 23–24, 2026. The 2026-27 season mixes international dance and theater companies with jazz, classical and pop artists. Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers play October 2, and Samara Joy sings on October 9.
