01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
The Shepherd was Good Shepherd Catholic Church until it closed in 2016. The owners of downtown gallery Library Street Collective bought it and started renovating in 2019, with Peterson Rich Office handling the design. Inside are two exhibition spaces, a public library curated by Asmaa Walton of Black Art Library, a performing arts theater and a community workshop. Around it grew Little Village: the ALEO bed and breakfast, McArthur Binion's foundation, a skatepark designed by Tony Hawk and a sculpture park honoring Charles McGee.
