01 / The story of this place

Don Dorshimer opened the venue as Club Eastbrook in 1988 (reportedly with a Kenny G show) and rebranded it The Orbit Room in 1993; with about 1,900 capacity, 500 theater-style seats upstairs and a 1,300-person floor, it was for decades West Michigan's main stage for touring acts. Green Day, Oasis, Linkin Park, Deftones, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Queens of the Stone Age, My Chemical Romance, Twenty One Pilots, Mac Miller and Kid Rock all played it, often before arena fame. After Dorshimer died in 2013 and competition from new downtown venues grew, the fire department shut the building around New Year's 2018 over fire-alarm, sprinkler and exit-door violations, and it never reopened.
