The Norwood sits on the site of the Norwood Theatre, a cinema that opened in 1915, was rebuilt in Art Deco style after the first building was demolished for road widening in 1941, and closed in 1949. Restored by the team behind The Eastern in Eastern Market, it's now a 7,000-square-foot, three-level industrial venue with a sound system on every floor and the patio, plus a downstairs bar lounge called Intermission. Besides weddings and private events, it hosts public DJ parties and festivals like the Detroit Diaspora Day Fest (eighth edition in May 2026) and funk, soul and house nights, and from December 2023 it was home to Queer Detroit, a weekly Thursday queer dance party.
