Make time for these
The Southwest Detroit Business Association started in 1957 as the West Vernor Businessman's Association, formed to keep shops from fleeing to suburban malls. In 1981 it became the first group in Detroit to land a LISC grant for commercial revitalization, and in 1989 it co-founded the Mexicantown Community Development Corporation with the Hubbard Richard Community Council. Today it champions businesses along Vernor and in Mexicantown and runs events like the Run of the Dead.
