01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Janet Webster Jones taught in Detroit Public Schools for 40 years and has been selling books since 1989. She opened her first shop in 2002 inside the Spiral Collective at Cass and Willis, sharing the space with three other Black women-owned businesses. In 2013 the store moved across the street into the Auburn Building. The shelves lean nonfiction: history and culture, health and well-being, metaphysics and spirituality, and books by and about women. You'll also find fair trade chocolate, world maps, oils, incense and shea butter goods. The shop hosts author events, often at the Detroit Public Library's Main Library.
