03 / The story of this place
What’s it like to stay here?
These Romanesque-style buildings trained Catholic priests for the Archdiocese of Detroit from 1949 until 1988, and the chapel, dedicated in 1955, has about fifty stained-glass windows. The grounds came back as a golf and conference center in 2000, and the hotel, then The Inn at St. John's, opened in January 2006. Pulte Family Management bought the property from the archdiocese in 2021, and today Saint John's Resort has 118 rooms and suites, The Cardinal golf complex (an 18-hole course, a 7-hole short course and a putting course) and more than 50,000 square feet of event space. The Concours d'Elegance of America classic-car show takes over the lawns, and the resort says all its profits go to charity through the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation. Here for golf, a wedding or a company retreat? You're in the right place.
