Royal Kubo started in a strip mall on Greenfield Road at I-696 in Oak Park, where you could see the stage from nearly every seat and the kitchen served until 2am. Metro Times readers voted it Best Karaoke in 1998 and Best Place for Karaoke in all counties in 2000, “for the umpteenth year in a row,” and it tied for Oakland County's Best Karaoke in 2001. It later moved to 14 Mile Road in Clawson, where karaoke ran on a big screen after 9pm six nights a week, with a multi-language songbook, dancing and room for 140 guests.
