Owner Laura turned a run-down bar called Jamie's into a party bar with a stage and dance floor, inspired by Coyote Ugly and a Beale Street karaoke bar in Memphis. Metro Times called it “100 percent a karaoke bar”: karaoke seven nights a week from 9pm to 2am, with wigs, costumes and prop instruments, and you could take home a CD of your performance. The bar ran its own contests too, the Rockstarz Karaoke Challenge in 2012 and 2013 and Mockstarz, where a live band backed singers on stage. During COVID it became Renegades, a country-rock karaoke bar, returned as Rockstarz in 2025 and closed for good in April 2026; owner Greg Wier blamed online rumors that followed a January 1, 2026 shooting in the parking lot.
