01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Robert C. Valade Park opened in 2019 on an East Riverfront site that's been a concrete plant, a Coast Guard station and the Dodge family's boathouse. It's named for Detroit native Robert C. Valade, the former Carhartt chairman and CEO. Think day at the beach in the middle of the city: sand, a playground, a sledding hill, a beach volleyball court, musical gardens and The Shed Bar & Café, plus Bob's Barge on the water from May to October. In winter, Winter at Valade brings oversized fireplaces, s'mores and themed weekends.
- Sandy beach and playground, open year-round
- Bob's Barge: drinks on the river, Wed–Sun, May–Oct
- The Shed Bar & Café with a full bar
- Beach volleyball leagues, chess nights and run clubs
- Winter at Valade with fireplaces and s'mores
