Roasting Plant started on Orchard Street on Manhattan's Lower East Side, and its Detroit café sits in the First National Building on Campus Martius. The trick is the Javabot, which roasts beans on site in micro-batches of three pounds or less and brews every cup to order, so your coffee really is fresh off the roaster. It's open weekends too, until 7 PM on Saturdays, which makes it an easy stop on a downtown walk.
