Related Companies was founded in 1972 by Stephen M. Ross with a $10,000 loan from his mother and a plan built around affordable housing. It grew into one of the best-known developers in the country, the force behind New York's Hudson Yards. In Detroit it partners with Olympia Development of Michigan in The District Detroit, and in April 2026 they broke ground on Founders House, a 13-story, 313-unit building on the University of Michigan Center for Innovation campus on Cass Avenue.
