Regent Park is a residential neighborhood in Detroit's far northeast corner, bounded roughly by Kelly Road, Gratiot Avenue, 8 Mile Road and 7 Mile Road. Built up mainly with brick colonials, bungalows and ranch houses along tree-lined streets, it was home in its mid-20th-century prime to many of the city's firefighters, police officers and teachers, and had two public schools and several churches anchoring the community. Rapper Sada Baby, born Sadateeqoun Otonokoun Kojo Onochie Harris-Bey, grew up in Regent Park in the 1990s and 2000s before breaking out nationally with viral hits like "Whole Lotta Choppas." Like much of Detroit, Regent Park suffered from disinvestment, foreclosures and school closures after the 2008 financial crisis and the city's bankruptcy, but community organizations have led a revival effort in the neighborhood in recent years.
