The Players Guild of Dearborn was organized in 1927 and staged its first play, The Prince Who Wore a Red Feather in His Cap, on December 30, 1927 at the old Dearborn High School, and Henry and Clara Ford were frequent guests. The Guild played the Dearborn Masonic Temple, then from 1940 the Eloise Hospital auditorium, before buying its Madison Street lot in 1947 and building its own theatre in 1949 with money from a bond sale. Until the 1970s membership was capped at 300 and audiences came by personal invitation only. Additions followed in 1953, 1969, 1996 and the 2000s. The 99th season opens with the musical Disaster! (September 26-October 4, 2026) and closes with Little Shop of Horrors (May 7-23, 2027).
