01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Pingree Detroit started in 2015 with a simple goal: good, skilled jobs for veterans and Detroiters. It's a worker-owned co-op that shares 77% of its profits with the team, and it builds footwear, bags, wallets and even pet gear from leather, vinyl and seat belts salvaged from the auto world, more than 55,000 pounds so far. On Veterans Day 2025 it opened its first store on car-free Columbia Street by the Fox Theatre, with a workshop you can see right from the sidewalk.
