Mary Chase Perry Stratton and Horace James Caulkins founded Pewabic Pottery in 1903. The studio is part of Detroit’s Arts and Crafts history, with distinctive glazes appearing on buildings far beyond the city. Today it remains a working pottery, educational space, and destination for ceramic art. A visit may change how you notice tilework and material details elsewhere in Detroit.
