Macomb County sits northeast of Detroit along Lake St. Clair. It was organized on January 15, 1818, as the third county in the Michigan Territory and named for Detroit-born Alexander Macomb. With 881,217 people at the 2020 census, it's Michigan's third-most populous county after Wayne and Oakland. County government is based in Mount Clemens and led by County Executive Mark A. Hackel.
