Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Clinton Township, just north of Detroit's Macomb County line, is the burial place of two very different Detroit legends. Norman "Turkey" Stearnes, one of the greatest hitters and center fielders of the Negro Leagues, spent most of his career with the Detroit Stars in the 1920s and 1930s and was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000, decades after his death in 1979. Paul Williams, one of the founding members of Motown's The Temptations and the group's original choreographer, helped define the vocal group's smooth, synchronized stage style before struggles with health and addiction led to his death in 1973; he was laid to rest here as well. The cemetery today is simply a quiet, working Macomb County burial ground, but it holds two names central to Detroit's musical and sporting history.
