L'Anse Creuse High School has served Harrison Township and the surrounding Macomb County communities north of Detroit for decades as part of the L'Anse Creuse Public Schools district. Matthew Shafer, who would go on to perform as Uncle Kracker, attended the school in the late 1980s and early 1990s before he started deejaying and rapping around Mount Clemens, connections that eventually led him to Kid Rock's Twisted Brown Trucker band and then to his own solo hits like "Follow Me" and "Drift Away." The school today is a fairly ordinary suburban public high school, but it's one of the formative Macomb County settings for a musician who became one of the era's bigger crossover country-pop success stories out of the Detroit area.
