Leonard Lippert opened the Hayloft Saloon in 1980 when he retired from Manufacturers Bank, modeling it on the Silver Star Bar: a blue-collar bar for men with a leather and country-western crowd, karaoke, pool, darts, an internet jukebox, six screens and video nights, nicknamed “Daddy's bar.” Ron Harrington, who also owned Side Traxx in Traverse City, bought it in 1996, and in 2018 it passed to Jaye Marie Carolan, a trans woman who also owned Adam's Apple and kept it a bar for gay men. It was put up for sale in October 2022, and in 2024 new owners rebranded it as HALO Bar & Lounge.
