01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

German immigrants founded the Harmonie Club in 1849 as a home for music, art and civic life. The current building, designed by Richard E. Raseman, went up in the mid-1890s; it became a Michigan State Historic Site in 1975 and joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. After decades of sitting quiet, it was restored with its wood paneling, mosaic tile floors, grand staircases and arched windows intact. Weddings, corporate events and concerts now fill the stage-equipped ballroom and its smaller salons.
