01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

The Hamtramck Historical Museum opened on Joseph Campau Avenue in September 2013 after 15 years of planning. It grew out of the Hamtramck Historical Commission, created by city ordinance in 1998, which started with nothing and now holds thousands of documents, photos, political memorabilia, films, maps and books. The nonprofit Friends of Historical Hamtramck owns and runs the museum and also leads walking and bus tours of the city. Admission is free, and donations keep the lights on.

  1. Free admission, donations welcome
  2. Thousands of photos, documents and artifacts
  3. Walking and bus tours of Hamtramck
  4. Next door to the Polish Art Center
