H&M began in 1947 when Erling Persson opened a single women's shop called Hennes in Sweden, and it grew into one of the world's biggest fashion retailers. Detroit's downtown store sits at 1505 Woodward Ave, on the stretch of Woodward where national brands line up between Campus Martius and Grand Circus Park. It's the place for affordable basics, trend pieces and accessories, and handy if the weather turns and you suddenly need a hoodie or rain jacket.
