Completed in 1929 to designs by Wirt C. Rowland, the Guardian Building pairs a brick exterior with marble, ceramics, and striking color inside. Its elaborate spaces reflect both Detroit’s industrial wealth and the decorative ambition of the era. Often associated with the idea of a cathedral of finance, it remains a working building rather than a museum open throughout.
