GM Plaza

Riverwalk plaza at the foot of the Renaissance Center, with wide Detroit River and Windsor views and a MoGo bike-share station.

01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

GM Plaza is the public plaza on the river side of the Renaissance Center, built when General Motors renovated the RenCen in the early 2000s. The Detroit Riverwalk runs right through it, and it's one of the best spots downtown to watch freighters slide past with Windsor across the water. From 2011 to 2019 it hosted the free Rockin' On the Riverfront summer concerts. GM moved its headquarters out of the RenCen in early 2026 and the complex is set for partial demolition and redevelopment, so expect changes here in the coming years.
