01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Germack dates to 1924, when brothers Frank and John Germack started importing and roasting pistachios, and the company says it was the first in America to do so. It also takes credit for the old-school red pistachio. Now run by the fourth generation, Germack roasts nuts, seeds and, since 2010, small-batch coffee right in the Eastern Market district. On Russell Street you'll find the nut store next to an espresso bar and a tea and spice shop, and it's a go-to for Michigan gift boxes.
