Flint Community Players began in 1928 as a play-reading group that became the Flint Theatre Guild, whose first production, Meet the Wife, was staged at Flint Central High School on June 27, 1929. After several names, including the Flint Playhouse Association, it settled on Flint Community Players in the early 1930s. For decades it performed in schools before moving into its own theatre on South Ballenger Highway. It's Genesee County's oldest community theatre and, by its own account, the fourth oldest in Michigan. Season 98 (2026-27) opens with the Hatchetfield musical The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals (September 25-October 4, 2026) and closes with Into the Woods (April 23-May 2, 2027).
