Evie's Tamales

Family-run Mexicantown tamale kitchen since 1981, serving hand-rolled tamales, breakfast burritos and daily specials from 5 am.

01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

Evelyn 'Evie' (it's 'Eh-vee') opened Evie's Tamales in Mexicantown in 1981, cooking from her mother's and grandmother's recipes. After she passed, her daughter Diane kept it going, and today Diane's son Eugene carries on the family tradition. Tamales come in pork, spicy pork, chicken, bean, cheese, jalapeño, chorizo and a sweet pineapple-raisin version, fresh or frozen to take home. Breakfast burritos are a local favorite, and Evie's motto still sums it up: 'Panza llena, corazón contento,' full belly, happy heart.

  1. Family run since 1981
  2. A dozen-plus tamale varieties, fresh or frozen
  3. Breakfast burritos from 5 am
  4. Catering and bulk tamale orders
