Make time for these
Elizabeth Park is Michigan's first county park, donated to Wayne County in October 1919 by the heirs of the Slocum family on condition it carry their mother Elizabeth Nichols' name. Most of the original 162-acre estate sits on Slocum's Island, cut off from the mainland by a narrow canal and linked by three old pedestrian bridges. Along the Detroit River you get about 1,300 feet of riverwalk for strolling and fishing, plus a marina, hiking and cycling trails, a ball field, a skatepark, a playground and a big picnic area.
