The Ferndale Downtown Development Authority has managed and marketed Downtown Ferndale since 1983, a district that runs 3.9 linear miles along Woodward Avenue and Nine Mile Road. It counts more than 350 businesses, most of them independently owned shops, cafés, bars and restaurants. In 2010 it won the Great American Main Street Award, a first for Oakland County. The DDA also handles parking, patio zones, the public art program and downtown events.
