The Downtown Detroit Partnership is the nonprofit that keeps the city's core humming. Its roots go back to 1922, when 13 business leaders met at the J.L. Hudson Co. offices to form the Business Property Association; it took its current name in 2005. Today it manages six public spaces, including Campus Martius Park, Cadillac Square, Beacon Park and Grand Circus Park, runs the downtown Business Improvement Zone, and puts on more than 1,600 free programs a year.
