DLECTRICITY

Closed – archive entry · 2021

A free nighttime festival of light and art that turned Midtown's Cultural Center into a canvas of projections and lasers. Last held in 2021.

01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

Inspired by Nuit Blanche festivals around the world, DLECTRICITY debuted in 2012, produced by the nonprofit Midtown Detroit, Inc. For two autumn nights, the facades of the DIA, the Detroit Public Library, MOCAD and other Cultural Center institutions became canvases for video art, lasers, interactive installations and performances. The name nods to Detroit's Electric Park, the amusement park that dazzled visitors with electric light from 1906 to 1928. It ran four times, in 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2021, and no new edition has been announced since, so we list it as closed.

  1. Light installations on Cultural Center landmarks
  2. Video art, lasers and interactive works
  3. The Light Bike Parade
  4. Free, outdoor and after dark
