02 / The story of this place
Make time for these
DeVos Performance Hall went up in 1980 on the south side of the DeVos Place convention center, and with 2,404 seats it's Grand Rapids' main stage. It's home to Broadway Grand Rapids' touring series and the Grand Rapids Symphony, Opera Grand Rapids stages its main-stage operas here, and Grand Rapids Ballet brings The Nutcracker. In June 2002, as part of the DeVos Place expansion, it got a new lobby with terrazzo floors, a street-side box office and a scrolling marquee, plus refurbished seats and balcony fronts inside. Legends Global (formerly ASM Grand Rapids) runs the venue. Broadway Grand Rapids' 2026-27 season brings The Notebook (October 13-18), Maybe Happy Ending (November 10-15), Six, Beauty and the Beast and Death Becomes Her, with The Phantom of the Opera on August 11-22, 2027.

Circle Theatre
Grand Rapids' summer community theatre since 1953. It started in a hotel room, then played a park pavilion that housed the zoo's monkeys in winter. Today it's at Aquinas College's Performing Arts Center.
