Developing K.I.D.S. (Developing Kingdoms in Different Stages) is a Detroit nonprofit started in 2005 by native Detroiter and former teacher Kimberly Johnson. It serves more than 1,000 young people a year with free programs: after-school, summer camp, Pre-K and workforce development for ages 14 to 24. Families get fun nights, parenting workshops and grief and trauma support. Its building on West McNichols also rents out for meetings, workshops and community events, and rental fees help fund the youth programs.
