Make time for these
The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel runs under the Detroit River from near the Renaissance Center to the middle of downtown Windsor. Work started in 1928 and it opened in November 1930 at a cost of $23 million. About 12,000 vehicles use it every day, almost all of them cars, and the cities of Detroit and Windsor own it together. Motorcycles, scooters and bikes aren't allowed, and you'll need valid travel documents, such as a passport, to cross.
- Under the river to Canada since 1930
- Downtown to downtown in minutes
- $9 toll for cars heading to Windsor, cashless
