01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

The Detroit Welcome Center is the state's walk-in travel info office in Southwest Detroit, run by MDOT as one of 14 welcome centers across Michigan. Travel counselors hand out maps and brochures and help you plan a trip anywhere in the state, so it's a smart first stop if you've just crossed the Ambassador Bridge from Canada. The $17 million building opened in August 2008.

  1. Free Michigan maps and travel brochures
  2. Staffed by state travel counselors
  3. Steps from Mexicantown, near the Ambassador Bridge
  4. Restrooms open during center hours
