The Detroit Medical Center formed in 1985 as an alliance of historic Detroit hospitals; the oldest, Harper Hospital, dates to 1863. Today it has more than 2,000 licensed beds, teaches with Wayne State and Michigan State medical schools and has been part of Tenet Healthcare since 2013. Its hospitals include Children's Hospital of Michigan, Detroit Receiving (Michigan's first Level I trauma center), Harper, Hutzel and Sinai-Grace, and it's the official care provider of the Tigers and Red Wings.
