The Detroit Black Film Festival showcases independent films directed, produced or written by Black filmmakers. Lazar and Marshalle Favors started it in 2020 through their production company, Trinity Films Entertainment Group, which also runs the Detroit Trinity International Film Festival. The 7th edition, in September 2026, brings 89 films from 30 countries, 17 of them made locally. Screenings spread across five Detroit venues led by the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, along with the Detroit Historical Museum, The Love Building, Imani Humphrey Banquet Hall and the Belle Isle Casino. Beyond the films there's a Filmmaker's Lounge and the Taste of Black Spirits showcase.
