01 / The story of this place

Cranbrook Educational Community is the education, research and museum complex in Bloomfield Hills founded by newspaper publisher George Gough Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth. It grew from a 174-acre farm bought in 1904 into a 319-acre campus holding Cranbrook Schools, the Academy of Art and Art Museum, the Institute of Science, Cranbrook House and Gardens and the Center for Collections and Research. Eliel Saarinen was its chief architect, and in 2024 the Michelin Green Guide gave it three stars.
