The College for Creative Studies traces its roots to the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts, an art and design school that industrialist and Cranbrook founder George Gough Booth helped establish in 1906. The school grew through the 20th century, taking the name Center for Creative Studies and later College for Creative Studies, and moved into its Midtown campus on East Kirby Street near the Detroit Institute of Arts. Actress Mary Lynn Rajskub studied art here around 1989 and 1990 before transferring to the San Francisco Art Institute, and fashion designer Anna Sui, a Detroit native, later endowed a scholarship here for fashion design students. Today it is one of the country's leading private art and design colleges, with programs in fine arts, industrial design, animation and entertainment arts.
