Sterling Heights lies about 18 miles north of downtown Detroit in Macomb County; with 134,346 residents in 2020 it was Detroit's second-largest suburb and Michigan's fourth-most populous city. City government works out of offices on Utica Road, publishes a city magazine and runs events from fire department open houses to mobile library stops in Dodge Park. It's also home to Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre, a summer concert favorite.
