01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Detroit's city government works out of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center at the foot of Woodward Avenue, next to Hart Plaza on the riverfront. It runs the DDOT bus system, city parking, parks and rec, the city airport and a long list of other departments. The 2020 census counted 639,111 residents, and by 2025 the population grew for the first time since 1950. Planners will mostly deal with the city for special event and other permits.
- City hall at the foot of Woodward
- DDOT buses, parking and parks
- Permits for events and businesses
- 3-1-1 for city customer service
