The Cherry Bowl opened on July 4, 1953 in Honor, surrounded by the cherry country of Northwest Michigan. In the late 1950s the screen tower was widened for CinemaScope. It always plays a double feature, with vintage cartoons and intermission reels running on 35mm film in between. You can listen through the original speaker posts, powered by vacuum-tube Motiograph amplifiers, or tune in on FM radio. The features themselves are projected digitally with a 100-yard throw onto what the Cherry Bowl calls Northern Michigan's largest movie screen. The season runs roughly May to September, with a diner and a family fun area on site.
