Braun Court, a small courtyard off North Fourth Avenue, became the center of Ann Arbor's LGBTQ+ community in 1995, when aut Bar opened at 315 Braun Ct. Common Language Bookstore, the Jim Toy Community Center and Trillium Real Estate later moved in next door, making the courtyard a hub of community life. People gathered here to celebrate the 2015 marriage-equality ruling and to hold a memorial after the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting. The era ended in 2020, when aut Bar closed permanently.
