03 / The story of this place
What was here?
Blaney Park opened in 1927 and grew into one of the Upper Peninsula's premier getaways, with cottages, a heated Olympic-size pool, a dude ranch, a private lake, a nine-hole golf course and a huge wildlife sanctuary. The resort closed in 1964, and its land was auctioned off piece by piece. The historic lodge got a second life as a bed-and-breakfast in 1990. In 2018 an electrical fire destroyed it; by then the building was more than a century old.
