Bishop Gallagher High School opened in 1962 in Harper Woods, formed by the parishes of St. Matthew, Queen of Peace and St. Philomena, and grew within a few years to serve over a thousand students from more than forty-five Catholic parishes across the Detroit area. Actor Danny Jacobs attended in the 1980s and later credited the school with sparking his interest in acting. Facing falling enrollment, the Archdiocese of Detroit merged Bishop Gallagher with St. Florian High School in Hamtramck in 2002 to form Trinity Catholic High School, which itself closed in 2005 as part of a wider wave of Catholic school closures in the region. The Harper Woods building no longer operates as a school.
