Make time for these
It began as the single-screen Colonial Theatre on Michigan Avenue and, under Butterfield, was renamed the Big Rapids Theatre by 1941. Later it became a four-screen cinema run by Carmike and then AMC, until it closed in March 2020; that August the closure became permanent. In 2025 Jordan Stancil, owner of Grayling's Rialto, bought it, and he reopened it on April 3, 2026 with two remodeled auditoriums and luxury seating. A third, larger auditorium is planned for fall 2026, followed by a replica of the historic marquee.
