01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Every July, downtown Ann Arbor turns into one giant open-air gallery. The Ann Arbor Art Fair is really three independent juried fairs running at once: the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, The Original, which started in 1960 with 132 artists, plus the State Street District Art Fair and The Guild's Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair. Today nearly 1,000 artists set up across 30 city blocks, selling everything from paintings and photography to jewelry and ceramics, and close to half a million people come to browse. Add live music, art activities for kids and plenty of street food. Wear comfy shoes and bring water; July in Ann Arbor gets hot.
