The Academy of the Sacred Heart traces its roots to 1851, making it one of the oldest independent schools in Michigan; today it educates girls from infancy through twelfth grade and boys through eighth grade in the Society of the Sacred Heart's Catholic tradition. Actress Elizabeth Reaser, later known for her role as Esme Cullen in the Twilight film series and for Grey's Anatomy, attended the school as a girl before her family transferred her to Avondale High School in Auburn Hills, where she graduated in 1993. The Bloomfield Hills campus on Kensington Road remains an active college-preparatory school and continues to operate as it has for more than 170 years.
